The 2012 Annual CID Summer School in Bologna features a cutting-edge intensive course that addresses the challenges posed to planning, monitoring and evaluation (PM&E) in development situations where multiple, interacting actors and factors create many options for intervening, measuring and learning. The program covers recent developments in PM&E techniques and practices that have proved effective in complex development situations where both interventions and results may shift or need to be revised over the life of a programme. Methods that will be covered include:
a) Outcome mapping
b) Utilization-focused approach
c) Outcome harvesting
d) Developmental evaluation
The Course presents practical steps, examples and participatory exercises in applying PM&E methods to strengthen management for development results, with special attention to situations where there is uncertainty about the causal relationships linking inputs, activities and outputs with the outcomes and impacts of development interventions. Participants will leave with practical guidance and skills in using tools to plan, monitor and evaluate their interventions and what they achieve in order to be accountable and to improve performance.
